"working as the assistant scenic designer i had the task of developing the artistic techniques that would be applied to the structures of the set. i decided on the color palette used throughout the design. i came up with this color palette by testing a combination of different colors and layers to find which ones created the most realistic stone appearance. once that was decided i went and had the paints mixed so we could begin applying it to the whole structure. the structure itself was made up of numerous steel flats covered in lauan. we then covered the flats with sheets of vacuform brick."
"i was assigned the task of designing and finding a way to execute the creation of our stained glass window. the two households were both represented throughout the show through a warm color palette and a cool color palette, and so we wanted to incorporate that into the stained glass. after researching different stained glass windows and symbols found within renaissance paintings i ended up with the idea of two trees growing together to form one. this represented the two families being separated but finding a way to become one. the warm color palette would converge with the cool color palette in the middle of the window. the design was executed on plexiglass. i created the vector drawing in adobe illustrator which was then transformed into a g-code file. the design was drawn on using the cnc router. using polyurethane combined with mixol colorant i was able to achieve my desired colors. the lighting used behind the window itself helped accentuate the design and bring more beauty to it."
